Art 2 Final Portfolio

Art two Final Portfolio

  1. Which project was your most successful? Describe the theme and or topic and the process you went through to complete the project. Were the choices you made regarding material, size, technique, etc beneficial to enhancing this project. Please explain.
I think my icecream "sticky situation" was most successful because i spent the most time on it out of all my projects and i thought i really captured the idea of "sticky". It was difficult to make the same brown over and over again but i eventually just made enough to last me through the rest of the project. I wanted to make the icecream the big picture so it takes up the majority of the canvas and the background is just a simple pattern. The certain colors i used made the project very bright and bubbly and thats what i was going for. This was probably my favorite project.
2.Discuss one project where you felt you overcame the most obstacles. What were those obstacles and how to work through them? Explain how taking risks or challenging yourself made you a better artist?
I definitely overcame the most obstacles in our portfolio of john travolta. It was a really long project and i didnt think we'd pull through and actually make him out of cd's. At one point i didnt think we had enough cd's and then i thought it'd take too long to paint them all and that there was no way we'd hang them on the wall and make it actually look like him. But using the key katie had of him, it actually worked! Taking that risk made me feel better about my projects because i know that if i have confidence and patience, I can work through hard, stressful projects like these.

    3. Look at your body of work over the semester and choose 2 pieces that show your growth as an artist. Discuss each piece and how you grew in the following areas: application of materials, techniques and skills, artistic vision, use of the principles and elements, creativity, intuition and subject matter.
    1. In the first picture, my "up close and personal" it was alright but i felt like it wasnt my best, like i rushed it and didnt put enough time in it as i should have. I really do feel like i approved on my questionable though because i knew exactly how i wanted it to come out and what i wanted it to look like, with time and patience it came out how i wanted it to. My creativity because much stronger too because and i didnt want to just get by on a project, i wanted it to mean something and really express what i was trying to create.

      4. This semester we introduced a new way of teaching and learning. Students had choices in subject matter and materials. Explain your thoughts on how effective this was (or if it was not) to your learning experience in this course. Provide examples through your art projects so we can see evidence of your learning.
I thought it was really effective because this let the students be more comfortable with their artwork since they chose how they want it. Being limited as to what you can use for a project might be stressful in times because you cant make it out to what you wanted your piece to be. When we were told to do a 3D project i already knew i wanted to work with clay and it would have made me uncomfortable if i was told i could not do/use that. Giving us our choice helps us create our own piece of art without feeling like we had no other choice.
